Wagner and Nietzsche – Part 1 of a two-part lecture series with Nicolas Krusek

July 26, 2025 - 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

HERE IS THE LINK TO AN ARCHIVAL VIDEO OF THIS PRESENTATION: https://youtu.be/Aa1yHE6GuD8

This pair of lectures is a shortened version of a 4-session course that Nicolas Krusek taught in conjunction with Simon Fraser University in British Columbia.

The love/hate relationship of Wagner and Nietzsche is one of the most famous and controversial parts of the Wagner story. This first session of Krusek’s pair of lectures will concentrate on the philosophical background (Feuerbach and Schopenhauer) and the Wagner/Nietzsche relationship from their first meeting (fall of 1868) to their breakup around the time of the first Bayreuth Festival (1876.)

Nicolas Krusek is a speaker and educator with twenty years of experience teaching music, literature and history. He studied orchestral conducting at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno (Czech Republic) and historical musicology at the University of British Columbia. Holder of a Distinguished Toastmaster designation, Nicolas has been a master of ceremonies at conferences and concerts, and he has given educational talks to audiences at opera performances, symphony concerts and philosophy conferences. He has taught courses for UBC Continuing Studies and the SFU Liberal Arts and 55+ Program.
