Das Liebesverbot (No Love Allowed) with Jonathan Khuner

The Wagner Society webinar series continues as the Society welcomes back Maestro Jonathan Khuner. Maestro Khuner will talk about Wagner’s early opera Das Liebesverbot which Pocket Opera plans to perform as “No Love Allowed” in an English translation. The performances have been postponed due to the restrictions imposed by the current Covid health and safety guidelines.

Jonathan Khuner will talk about Wagner’s influences and about his early opera Das Liebesverbot. There will be a lot of musical examples for this presentation.

Well-known to the WSNC and to audiences in the greater Bay Area, Jonathan Khuner served for many years on the music staffs of San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Metropolitan Opera as prompter and in musical preparation. Khuner now serves as the Music Director of West Edge Opera (formerly Berkeley Opera) and frequently conducts for Island City Opera (Alameda). For West Edge Opera, Khuner recently conducted acclaimed performances of Three Penny Opera and Pelleas and Melisande. Khuner also conducted Tristan und Isolde and Nabucco for the Claude Heater Foundation.
