Film Presentation & Intro to Verismo Valkyrie in Vallejo
January 1, 1970 - 12:00 pm
The Wagner Society of Northern California will screen the documentary film Der Meistersinger (The Meistersinger). Film maker Astrid Bscher followed tenor Klaus Florian Vogt for a period of approximately 7 years. During this time, Vogt rose to become one of the most sought after tenors – a specialist in the demanding Wagnerian heldentenor roles of Lohengrin, Siegmund, Parsifal, Walther and Erik.
In a very risky career move, Vogt walked away from a permanent job as a French horn and Wagner tuba player for the Hamburg Philharmonic orchestra to pursue his desire to be an opera singer. His career has led him from regional houses in German to singing in Bayreuth and many of the world’s greatest opera theaters. This film takes you behind the scenes for a very close look on the other side of the theater curtain.
The film is in English with spoken interviews in English supertitles.
After the film, WSNC Member Rick Bogart will introduce assorted singers and artists from the upcoming Verismo Opera presentation of Die Valkyrie. Rick will introduce Verismo Opera’s project and share some musical selections. Verismo’s Die Valkyrie is scheduled for November 2013.
