Wagner and Verdi “waltz” in the New Year

In a highly unusual move, the Vienna Philharmonic made room in their traditional Johann Strauss waltz-a-thon for music of the 200th Jubilee Year celebrants: Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi.

Conducted by Franz Welser-Möst the concert featured, amid the endless supply of waltzes and polkas, the Act III Bridal Music from Wagner’s Lohengrin and also the prestissimo section of the ballet from Act III of  Verdi’s Don Carlo.
