I pass along the following offer which we received. These very large stained glass windows are, um, just a tad outside my price range, but someone may be interested, and they are beautiful to see.
To various Wagner Societies in the United States:
My name is Dr Bob Jensen—I live in the Seattle area. I am writing you because you are Wagner enthusiasts. In 1982 I acquired two beautiful “one of a kind” pieces of stained glass. The subject matter is from two of Wagner’s Operas—Tannhauser and Lohengrin. By “one of a kind” I would imagine they are unique in that there are probably no others like them.
I have only a small bit of knowledge about them, and will share with you what my research has turned up. They were purchased at auction in Los Angeles in the 1930’s and were in crates from that time until I bought them in 1982. In 1983 I sent photos to Mr Alistair Duncan (Christies of New York). He dated them between 1890 and 1910 and stated that they were most likely a commissioned work by an American artist. Both are quite large. Tannhauser is 4’X7’3″ and Lohengrin is 4’X5’8″.
I have enjoyed their beauty for 25 years, but have sold my large Victorian home and in “downsizing” their size does not allow me the space to display them. So, I have decided to sell them. I would sell them only as a pair—-they belong together!
My primary reason for contacting you is that as lovers of Wagner and his music, I feel they would find a home where they would be appreciated as I have appreciated them.
I am attaching the photos that I have—the quality is somewhat lacking, but I found it difficult to get good photos of back-lighted stained glass. In other words, I’m not a professional photographer!
Please feel free to contact me by e-mail or phone if interested, or if you have any questions.
Best regards
Bob Jensen
