From WSNC: Featured San Francisco Ring Speaker, Metropolitan Opera Broadcaster and sometime featured speaker on Met Opera LIve HDs Will Berger.  This sounds like a really fun way to learn about and enjoy opera during the lock-down, and hey – cocktails!.

AUTHOR, LECTURER, AND RADIO COMMENTATOR WILLIAM BERGER OFFERS A LIVE 8-SESSION, 2-WEEK WEBINAR COURSE, “THE EPIC OF OPERA”, WITH STELLAR GUESTS

Beginning June 7th, Metropolitan Opera commentator and noted author/lecturer William Berger will present a lively, interactive late-afternoon/early evening Zoom-based webinar tracing the story of opera itself: Where does it come from? Why did it become what it did? How does it work, and what does it offer us that nothing else does?

Each session will feature a presentation with visuals and playlists, a discussion with a famous opera singer, and an interactive segment with course attendees. The sessions promise to be lively, engaging, informative, and even mind-opening. Every session will include a recommended cocktail thematically designed by notable musical mixologists of legendary venues, emphasizing that this is a social and artistic event as well as an educational one. The spectacular list of confirmed singer guests includes Justino Díaz, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Christine Goerke, Joseph Calleja, Jamie Barton, Morris Robinson, Latonia Moore, Anthony Dean Griffey, and Susanna Phillips.

“As far as I know,” Berger says, “there’s nothing like this out there… on line or elsewhere. There are webinars for singing technique, for music history, and even for backstage gossip, but nothing else unpacking the very question of what this art form is and how best to mine its deep vein of gold, today and tomorrow. As such, this is for everybody, from the complete newcomer to the jaded know-it-alls needing a reboot of this huge subject.”

The course is offered at a subscription price of $50 with group subscription packages available as well as discounts for students, first responders and front-liners, and starving artists. Personally this is such a unique series of webinars, I think it is well worth the price of $50 – Terri
