The Society has just received information regarding a performance of Tannhäuser to be given in Cuba March 2016. Since the U.S. has lifted the travel ban this might be an ideal opportunity to visit Cuba. Jet Blue has plans for the first U.S. to Cuba flights to begin on June 5th. Cuba even has a Wagner Society!
Here is the notice from the Richard Wagner Society of Munich, which organized travel to Cuba in 2013 for Der fliegende Hollander:
Dear friends and colleages of Wagner Societies,
Please have a look at information about our next upcoming Wagner Cuba Event 2016
The great success of “The flying Dutchman” in 2013 and recent political developments were encouraging for us: the “Wagner society of Munich” continues to support actively the “Circle of friends of Richard Wagner” in Cuba (Member of the RWVI since 2013). On location there is much interest in “Richard Wagner” and there are outstanding talented young artists in the field of opera as well as ballet. In workshops we are about to deepen the understanding of the works of Richard Wagner. Andreas Baesler (stage director) once again will play an important role; with cuban singers and musicians a special musical version of the opera “Tannhäuser” will be created and in cooperation with the world-class ballet ensemble of  “Danza contemporánea“ a cuban-style production of Wagners masterpiece is about to be developped.  Come together with us to Havanna (Premiere 26.03.2016) and take the opportunity to enjoy a variety of attractive touristical offerings together with delegates from you society – before Cuba is about to change forever.
Premiere Tannhäuser 26.03.2016
