The Placido Domingo Operalia Vocal Competition will be held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion in Los Angeles, August 25 – 30, 2014
Every year this prestigious competition is offered in major cities around the world and this is the third time Operalia comes to Los Angeles. Last year the winner in the male vocal category was Ao Li, bass baritone, who was a graduate of the San Francisco Opera Merola Program and Adler Fellowship Programs.
Other noted past awardees familiar to the San Francisco opera audience include: Joyce Di Donato, Lisette Oropessa, Ailyn Perez, Brian Asawa, Ana Maria Martinez, Elizabeth Futral, Rolando Villazon, Eric Owens and Susanna Phillips. The Operalia Competition has a special Prize Category: The Birgit Nilsson Award for best vocalist in the Wagner/Strauss vocal fach. The Operalia final award competition has been streamed live on Medici.TV and will be streamed this year.
