Well it didn’t seem that it would happen, however, the very first Wagner work to be performed in Albania will take place on November 23rd. Through the hard work of the intrepid Roy Stevens, Annalisa Winberg, Jonathan Khuner and Daniel Helfgot – to name only a few – Tannhäuser will make his fateful trip to Rome.

If you look at the very bottom of the poster – you will see the logo of the Wagner Society of Northern California. Earlier this year the WSNC organized a fund raiser for the Albanian Tannhäuser initiative and rallied support for the California-based team of artists who championed the effort.

Earlier the first Wagner Opera in Cuba since the Castro Regime took hold – Die fliegende Holländer and now Tannhäuser in the formerly totalitarian country of Albania. Richard would be happy.
