It has been reported that Franco-Romanian director Petrika Ionesco has been relieved of directoral duties for the upcomng San Francisco Opera production of  Flying Dutchman.

Ionesco was the director of the highly successful production of Cyrano featuring Placido Domingo in the leading role. However, many Wagnerians were left scratching their heads after viewing the webcast of the Opera Royal de Wallonie debut of this shared production.  The opera began in a graveyard, presumably that of Senta. What followed was an assortment of ghouls, ghosts and zombies. That does tie to San Francisco Opera performing the opera on Halloween.

Stay tuned for the announcement of the replacement director. Flying Dutchman opens on Tuesday October 22nd.
