It was just announced that Richard Mills, the conductor for the Melbourne Ring, has withdrawn from the production citing lack of “chemistry”.
The production team and Mills had been working on the project. The difficulty seems to have arisen now that the members of the cast are beginning rehearsals. Mills is a noted mainly as a composer and conductor. In viewing his resume on his website, the conducting resume seems a bit thin.
So who is it? The major players are Susan Bullock (Brünnhilde), Stuart Skelton (Siegmund), Stefan Vinke (Siegfried), Terje Stensvold (Wotan) and John Wegner ( Alberich). None of these individuals are known to be anything but terrific colleagues.
In the mean time, the search is on for a replacement conductor.
