Recently diagnosed with a heart murmur, bass baritone Greer Grimsley, while visiting relatives in New Orleans, noticed he was feeling off. His physician had Grimsley immediately wheeled into emergency surgery to correct an aortic aneurism. Grimsley is out of the hospital and according to his wife, mezzo soprano Luretta Bybee, he was already singing Wotan in the shower. Grimsley’s physician said that he’s “better than before” and should be able to continue his robust career.

Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery and long may Greer wield his spear. Grimsley is scheduled to sing Wotan at the Metropolitan Opera beginning May 4th and then he relocates to Seattle for the August Ring Cycles.

Thanks to D.G. “Mitch” Mitchell who spotted this on Luretta Bybee’s Facebook page.
