Two ships set sail in Roanoke

Soprano Julia Rolwing sent a “heads up” that Opera Roanoke will produce “Der fliegende Holländer” as the opener to their 35th opera season. Wagner’s early work is paired with another nautical tale, “Pirates of Penzance” and both will be fully staged and performed at Roanoke’s Jefferson Center.

Flying Dutchman opens on September 21 and there will be another performance on September 23.

The cast is not announced as yet, but the heads up from Ms. Rolwing, a Wagner Society Career Grant Recipient, speaks volumes.
