Incomparable Baritone in Lieder and Opera

The world is stunned and saddend with news of the death of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau on May 18th, just days before what would have been his 87th birthday.

Fischer-Dieskau was formidable on the opera stage but also renown the world over for his lieder recitals, recordings and as a stern yet generous teacher. On the opera stage and also on recordings he sang the most powerful roles for his fach: Wotan, Hans Sachs, Amfortas, Telramund, Wolfram Amfortas, Iago, Macbeth, Scarpia, and Jokanaan.
